Nico Rosberg signs two-year Mercedes contract extension

Nico Rosberg has officially signed a new contract with Mercedes which will see him remain at the team until the end of 2018, bringing to an end speculation surrounding his and the team's future line-up. Rosberg and Mercedes had been in discussion for many months, enlisting the help of former driver Gerhard Berger to lead negotiations. Despite neither Rosberg nor Mercedes considering other options, it didn't stop speculation that the German could be replaced following the falling out between him and team-mate Lewis Hamilton, which came to a head in Austria when Rosberg was penalised for causing a collision with the Briton.
