Mercedes drop Rosberg appeal

Mercedes have dropped plans to appeal the time penalty which cost Nico Rosberg second place in the British GP. The world champions had until Thursday evening to formally protest against the 10-second sanction, which was imposed by stewards at Silverstone three hours after Sunday's race. Mercedes were found to have broken F1's radio restrictions by telling Rosberg, the championship leader, how to resolve a gearbox problem in the closing stages of the race. Mercedes had notified the FIA on Sunday night of their intention to appeal, but had 96 hours to decide whether to formalise the process via the German-owned team's national sporting association.
