Lewis Hamilton takes Austria pole from Nico Hulkenberg and Jenson Button
Lewis Hamilton will start the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix from pole position after beating Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by more than half a second in a damp final session. The Briton posted a 1m07.922s as he made a late switch from intermediate tyres to slicks as the track dried in the closing stages following a short rain shower during Q2. Rosberg, although second, will drop five places following his final practice crash which forced the team to change his gearbox. He will therefore start seventh. That promotes third placed Nico Hulkenberg to the front row alongside Hamilton.
