Verstappen surprised by new kerb strength

Max Verstappen says he didn't expect the new yellow sausage kerbs to cause the heavy damage his Red Bull car sustained during FP1 when he was pushing the track limits. The Red Bull driver was given a warning when he drove over the bigger kerbs at the exit of turn eight when he lost a piece of his front wing plate but then suffered a bigger incident when he hit the same kerb type at turn five which broke his steering section and suspension on the front right of his car. The damage sent Verstappen into the gravel trap and prematurely cut short his opening session and due to the extensive rebuild the youngster also missed the opening minutes of FP2 before the sudden rain shower.
