Alonso – “Can we stop” message was strategy-related

Canadian Grand Prix – Fernando Alonso has said that his radio message asking if he could stop was regarding pit stop strategy. The initial impression from the radio message was that he wanted to retire the car in a race with next to nothing to gain as he was running outside of the points. However, Alonso has said that the message was about his next pit stop. “I enquired about the possibility of fitting fresh tyres for the last few laps,” he said, “but I guess it was a little too much of a risk: at that point we were 11th and stood to score a point or two at the end if something were to have happened ahead of us.  “Still, I’d done more than 50 laps on those tyres – and the...
