Hamilton on pole as Mercedes turns it up against rivals

Lewis Hamilton has claimed pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix after beating team-mate Nico Rosberg by just 0.062s as Mercedes turned up its engines to ease away from Ferrari and Red Bull. After intriguing practice sessions which saw Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen trump the top times in FP3, the Mercedes duo threatened the team's ultimate performance in Q2 by pulling out half a second on the rest. In the pole shootout Hamilton and Rosberg set new fastest laps with their opening flyers with the British driver producing a 1m 12.812s to nip ahead of his team-mate.
