Heavy Magnussen crash ends final practice early

Kevin Magnussen ended a difficult final free practice session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the wall after running wide and damaging his car at turn seven. The Danish driver had already been in the spotlight after a three times finding himself in the way of other drivers on quick laps, but lost control and hit the wall heavily, damaging the whole of the left hand side of the car with twelve minutes of the session remaining, with the driver getting out of the car unharmed. The Renault Sport F1 driver was no on a fast lap during his incident, and the RS16 appeared to snap on him on exit of the turn, with the session halted and not restarted as a result.
