Alonso hits 'mini target' for McLaren

Fernando Alonso made a breakthrough for McLaren at his home Spanish Grand Prix on Saturday by joining the top 10 in qualifying for the first time since Honda returned as engine partners last year. While recognising it was a far cry from the days when the former world champions would have been dismayed not to be in the final phase, the Spaniard said being 10th quickest marked an important step on the road back to the top. "It's the first qualifying in a long time that I don't watch on television," quipped the double world champion who for more than a year has finished before the final fight for pole position.
