Hamilton beats Rosberg to pole in Spain

Mercedes AMG Petronas Lewis Hamilton recovered from a mistake on his first flying lap in Q3 to secure pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, ahead of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg. Hamilton set a rapid sector one time on his first Q3 effort but locked up both tyres heavily into Turn 10, missing the apex and compromising the remainder of his lap. It left Rosberg with an advantage of eight-tenths of a second after the first runs, with Hamilton in third spot. Hamilton set a sequence of blistering sector times on the second run to move to the front with a time of 1:22.000. Rosberg also improved on his time but was 0.280s adrift of team-mate Hamilton.
