Bite-size tech: McLaren Honda MP4-31 internal layout
Whilst there isn't much new to see in this image, it does afford us a good look at the Honda power unit installed within the McLaren chassis. You'll note that the Japanese engine manufacturer ditched its opening salvo of a log style exhaust manifold, with tokens spent late into 2015 to introduce a more conventional design. The 2016 specification, shown here, differs once more with the primary shape, orientation and lengths optimised for the current demands of the power unit. You'll also note the use of heat wrap, which helps to retain the heat within the exhaust, rather than creating heatsoak which would be detrimental to the performance of the various coolers located within the...
