Nico Rosberg quickest from Lewis Hamilton in opening Russia practice

Nico Rosberg topped the opening practice session for the Russian Grand Prix on Friday morning to continue his strong form from the opening three races, easily beating team-mate Lewis Hamilton to the top spot. The Mercedes drivers were the first to set a time during the 90-minute session with Hamilton setting the early pace, but Rosberg was quickest as they switched to the softest compound available and remained at the top when the checkered flag fell. Hamilton ended the session seven-tenths adrift in second, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel posting a last-minute improvement to jump to third, a further three-tenths down.
