Williams blames rims for Massa tyre failures

Williams believes that rim failures were the cause of Felipe Massa's tyre problems in opening practice for the Chinese Grand Prix – although the team is still unclear about what led to them breaking. The Brazilian brought out a session-stopping red flag after 25 minutes of FP1 following a spin at Turn 6, when his left rear tyre appeared to come off the rim and pitched him into a spin. After returning to the pits and being sent back out on to the track, Massa suffered a repeat failure immediately afterwards – prompting the team to remain in the garage for the remainder of the session.
