Bite-size tech: McLaren's under nose inverted shark fin

McLaren has added a vertical fin on the underside of its nosecone in China, as it continues to improve the balance of its car for the drivers.   McLaren MP4-31 front wing detail Photo by: Giorgio Piola The inverted shark fin sits right on the centreline of the nose and will condition the airflow as it converges under the nose, likely improving the way in which the Y250 vortex is created and how the turning vanes interact with that flow structure. In all likelihood the introduction of the fin will maintain the integrity of the flow structures in yaw, improving cornering speed and balance. Additional reporting by Matt Somerfield.
