Ecclestone proposes Saturday race for 2017
Formula 1 could be racing on a Saturday next season, using the result of that event to determine to the grid order for Sunday's grand prix. Earlier this week the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone backed down on their attempts to change this year's qualifying format after the teams demanded a return to the 2015 system. They did, however, state in the announcement that they were keen on assessing the format of grand prix weekends with an eye to changing things in 2017. 'Jean Todt and Bernie Ecclestone welcomed the idea put forward by the teams to have a global assessment of the format of the weekend for 2017,' read the FIA statement.
