Alonso fails Bahrain GP medical, Vandoorne to debut
McLaren have confirmed that their reserve driver and reigning GP2 champion Stoffel Vandoorne will make his F1 debut and replace Fernando Alonso at this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix. Following a mandatory FIA medical examination before this weekend's event, the FIA doctor's ruled that McLaren's Fernando Alonso was not fit to contest the Bahrain Grand Prix due to injuries to his chest sustained in his crash at Melbourne. This news will come as a surprise as, despite the dramatic cash, Alonso appeared looking remarkably unscathed and has been expressing his eagerness to race this weekend.
