Alonso to use new power unit in Bahrain

McLaren's Fernando Alonso will use a spare chassis and new power unit in Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix, following a crash in Formula 1's season opener. The 34-year-old avoided serious injury after colliding with the Haas of Esteban Gutierrez in an accident that halted the race in Melbourne. Honda will replace the complete power unit for Bahrain. The Spanish driver hopes for "as much time as possible with the new chassis" from the start of free practice. Honda's F1 head Yusuke Hasegawa said the power unit was recovered but initial investigations showed the engine and surrounding parts were too badly damaged to be salvaged.
