Baku will be the world's fastest street circuit - Tilke
Formula 1 track architect Hermann Tilke says Baku will be the world's fastest street circuit when it hosts the European Grand Prix later this year. The track around the Azerbaijan capital will make its debut on the Formula 1 calendar this season, hosting its first race on June 19. Tilke and his team started work on the track in 2014, and the German says there is no circuit like it in the world. "Baku will be the world's fastest city circuit and the track loop around the city's historical centre will create a unique and remarkable atmosphere for fans watching in the grandstands and at home," Tilke said.
