Alonso survives frightening Australian GP crash

Fernando Alonso has survived a spectacular accident at the Australian Grand Prix that forced the Formula 1 season opener to be red flagged. The Spaniard was battling with Esteban Gutierrez for 19th position when, under braking for Turn 3, he ran into the left rear wheel of his Haas rival. Alonso's front right wheel was ripped off and he was left a passenger as his McLaren was pitched in to the wall on the left. At barely abated speed, his skipped sideways in to the gravel trap and was pitched in to a series of spectacular rolls.
