Magnussen encouraged by Renault strength

– Renault driver Kevin Magnussen says the returning manufacturer did not expect to make it through to the second knockout session of qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix.Both Magnussen and rookie team-mate Jolyon Palmer escaped Q1, though were the first to be eliminated in the next session, with Magnussen in 15th spot and Palmer once place higher in 14th.Magnussen was nonetheless upbeat over the performance of the RS16 as both he and Palmer prepare for their first race since the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, when the latter made his last GP2 start."We didn't think we would be as strong as we were today, we hadn't expected to get out of Q1 and actually we got both cars...
