New qualifying format set to be delayed

Formula 1's controversial new qualifying system looks set to be delayed until the start of the European leg due to problems introduce the format to the timing systems, according to Bernie Ecclestone. The new 'live elimination' format, which will see all cars on track and the slowest after 90secs intervals pulled out has been introduced for this year's championship in an effort to spice up the qualifying action and open up the pole position battle. However, drivers and teams have offered a mixed response to the changes, with many questioning their necessity given the current qualifying format is considered relatively popular.
