Ecclestone confirms F1 not ready for 2016 knockout qualifying Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that, F1 is not ready for 2016 knockout qualifying format in Australian Grand Prix, which approved through both the F1 Strategy Group and the F1 Commission this week, because the technological side cannot set up the software and visualization in time. The meetings of the Strategy Group and F1 Commission had been billed as the last chance for F1 to agree sweeping changes to the technical regulations for 2017. “The new qualifying won’t happen because we can’t get everything ready in time,” Ecclestone told the Independent. “We can’t get the software done in time.
