New qualifying format agreed; Possible introduction for 2016

A meeting of the F1 Strategy Group and the F1 Commission was held in Geneva yesterday where a new qualifying format reached universal agreement. The Commission have accepted a new qualifying system that is currently being evaluated for introduction, with the FIA saying that this could be as early as this upcoming season, starting next month in Australia. The new format retains a basic structure of three separate sessions, with the following changes: Q1: 16 minutes long After seven minutes, the slowest driver is removed.
