‘No guarantees' of McLaren drive for Vandoorne

McLaren's reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne has admitted that he is not guaranteed a place at McLaren for 2017, despite being heavily linked with a future drive. The Belgian driver broke several records on his way to being crowned GP2 champion in 2015, and was tipped to join the Formula One grid in 2016. However, Vandoorne's route towards a McLaren drive was blocked by the extension of Jenson Button's contract. With Button and Fernando Alonso contracted until 2016 and 2017 respectively, Vandoorne's chances of securing a seat at the Woking team appears to depend on whether or not Button decides to retire at the end of 2016.
