De Filippis passes away aged 89

– Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first female driver to compete in Formula 1, has passed away at the age of 89.Italian-born De Filippis attempted to qualify for five races across 1958 and 1959, for Maserati and the Jean Behra-run Porsche outfit.Though her first attempt in Monaco in 1958 proved unsuccessful, she went on to make the grid two rounds later in Belgium and finished the race in 10th position, a result which proved to be her only classification in Formula 1.De Filippis retired from further races in Portugal and Italy, before failing to qualify once more in Monaco a year later.De Filippis walked away from the sport soon after following the death of Behra and there was no...
