– On Monday, Channel 4 announced that it had acquired the terrestrial television rights to Formula 1 in the UK, following the BBC's premature exit. GPUpdate.net explains what will change for viewers.Why has the BBC pulled out of its contract prematurely?Quite simply, the BBC needed to save money due to a £150 million gap in its funding from 2016. In a comprehensive analysis of its savings, BBC Sport was asked to slash £35 million from its budget and Formula 1 bore the brunt of the cuts. Ending the contract early was no surprise; ITV's original contract ran until 2010 (it bailed in 2008) and the BBC's exclusive deal until 2013 was abandoned in 2011.What does this mean for Formula 1...
