Channel 4 replaces BBC in new UK TV deal

Red Bull/Getty Images Channel 4 has confirmed that it will show Formula 1 for the first time in 2016 after BBC Sport withdrew from its contract with Sky Sports in the UK three years early. BBC Sport has been seeking to cut costs and it opted out of its contract with Sky Sports, which was set to run until 2018, and its role will be taken by Channel 4. Channel 4 will show 10 live races (including practice and qualifying) without advert breaks and will broadcast comprehensive highlights of the other 11 races, in a deal which runs until 2018.
