FIA to allow six 2016 in-season tyre tests

Pirelli Media Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has opened up the possibility to hold six two-day tyre tests during 2016, in order to assist tyre supplier Pirelli with its development. Pirelli has been Formula 1's sole tyre supplier since 2011 though it has had limited scope for testing and is keen to conduct more, having committed to the sport until at least the end of 2019. "In consultation with the teams and the appointed tyre supplier, the FIA reserves the right to organise up to six two day tests for the sole purpose of providing the supplier with the chance to test improvements to the design of their tyres," read the amended 2016 sporting regulations.
