Three tyre compounds permitted for 2016
From 2016, drivers will be allowed to compete in a Grand Prix weekend with three types of tyre compound as opposed to two, whilst other technical and sporting changes have been confirmed. The FIA will allow competitors three tyre compounds during a Formula One weekend as part of the technical rules tweaks for the 2016 season decided at the World Motorsport Council meeting today. Since Pirelli's return to Formula One, only two types of tyre compound have been usable for any given race weekend, which have always been chosen by Pirelli.
