FIA confirms 21 race calendar for 2016

Formula 1's biggest ever calendar has been signed off by the FIA, with the 21 race schedule having been approved by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday. However, there remains some uncertainty about the future of the Austin event, with its October 23 date being pencilled in as subject to confirmation. The event needs to finalise a contract with the national sporting authority, plus Bernie Ecclestone – against the backdrop of funding issues. The uncertainty about the event may have prompted the only tweak to the schedule agreed several months ago, with Mexico's date having been shifted from November 6 to October 30.
