Lotus keep Mercedes as a 'backup plan'

Lotus F1 have claimed they are keeping their current Mercedes customer engine supplier as a backup plan, if the anticipated Renault take-over deal does not pan out for the financially struggling, Lotus F1.   CEO Matthew Carter remains confident that the Renault take-over is likely to happen, with Renault staff now believed to have started working at the Lotus factory in Enstone which is likely to boost the team with confidence. However, a number of complications loom on the horizon, and if the anticipated take-over does not go to plan, Lotus have World Championship winning engine, Mercedes to back them up in extreme cases.
