Retro: Mansell unchallenged in Mexico

F1 returned to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City this weekend, but what happened at the last Mexican Grand Prix back in 1992? It was the second round of the season and followed the South African Grand Prix, which had been dominated by Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese in the new Williams FW14. Following the success last time out, it was clear Williams would be the team to beat once again when F1 headed to Mexico City’s super-quick track. That certainly proved to be the case in qualifying, with Mansell taking pole position. However, he only just claimed first on the grid, finishing 0.016 seconds ahead of team-mate Patrese.
