Rear wing DRS flap fault causes Bottas off

Valtteri Bottas says a fault with his rear wing DRS flap caused his crash during free practice two in Mexico as he struggles with the slippery surface of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The Williams driver recovered from his high-speed off at turn one to end the second free practice session seventh quickest during a testing Friday. The Finn explained under braking his DRS flap – which was open down the long pit straight – failed to shut correctly under braking which produced a lack of rear downforce and his Williams spun into the barriers. “The rear wing stalled,” Bottas said. “When I braked and the DRS closed it was still as if the DRS was open.
