COTA delays gate opening until noon

The Circuit of the Americas has decided to delay the opening of its gates until noon due to safety reasons, with heavy rain continuing to fall in Texas. First practice for the United States Grand Prix took place on Friday morning in wet conditions but torrential showers caused the second session to be cancelled. Poor weather and storms continued to sweep over COTA overnight and into Saturday morning, meaning the gate opening has been postponed by four hours to midday. The gate opening time confirmed by the circuit is two hours after the scheduled start for third practice.
