Austin FP1: Rosberg tops in the wet
Mercedes driver and championship challenger Nico Rosberg set the pace in a rain-affected first free practice for the United States Grand Prix, at Circuit of the Americas in Austin. Rosberg headed Red Bull duo Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo, second and third respectively. Carlos Sainz was fourth in the Toro Rosso, with Hamilton fifth in the Mercedes and the only other title contender, Sebastian Vettel sixth in the Ferrari. The session marked the start of what could be to be a challenging weekend with Texas expected be affected by heavy storms and high rainfall, due to Hurricane Patricia, the strongest tropical storm ever recorded, heading rapidly towards Mexico.
