Magnussen and McLaren split for 2016

Kevin Magnussen has left his role as McLaren's test and reserve driver in order to pursue a race seat for the 2016 season. The 23-year-old Danish driver joined the Woking team as part of their young driver academy, which oversaw his title-winning campaign in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2013. He was promoted to McLaren's 2014 driver line-up, where he took his first podium in his first outing for McLaren at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix. He was originally thought to be retained alongside Fernando Alonso for this season, but a late decision to retain Jenson Button saw Magnussen demoted to test and reserve driver for this year.
