Nico Rosberg grabs Sochi pole position

Nico Rosberg secured only his third pole position of the season as he beat Mercedes AMG PETRONAS team-mate Lewis Hamilton in qualifying at the Sochi Autodrom. The German driver achieved a best lap time of 1m37.113s in the final session to take pole position, while Hamilton struggled in comparison, ending 0.320s back after his first run and then aborting his second run when he made a mistake a turn thirteen. Hamilton’s decision to abort saw Rosberg cut short his session as well, with the Mercedes duo well clear of the rest of the field. Valtteri Bottas was the best of the rest in third, but was almost eight-tenths of a second back on Rosberg’s time in his Williams Martini Racing entry,...
