Russian GP grid penalties for Alonso, Merhi
Fernando Alonso and Roberto Merhi are destined to start the Russian Grand Prix from the back of the grid after it was confirmed both will take new power units in Sochi. With Honda using up the remainder of its in-season development tokens to introduce its latest upgrade, only Alonso will make use of it in Russia. In all, the changes for a 10th ICE, ninth TC, 9th MGU-H and 7th CE amount to a 25-place grid penalty for the McLaren driver. Meanwhile, returning Manor driver Roberto Merhi is taking a fifth Ferrari power unit – along with a fifth TC and MGU-H, landing him a 20-place grid penalty.
