Australian GP confirms earlier date for 2016 F1 race

The 2016 Formula 1 season will kick off on March 17, after the Australian Grand Prix confirmed a date change for its race. The Melbourne event was originally scheduled for April 3, but F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone was looking at moving it to an earlier date. Australian GP bosses had already said they had no problems with moving the race as long as it did not clash with Easter weekend. On Wednesday, organisers confirmed the event will now take place on 17-20 March. The move is expected to be ratified by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council, which met today in Paris.
