Rossi defies radio silence to defeat Stevens on debut
Alexander Rossi got his much discussed Formula 1 career underway in fine fettle by comfortably out-performing Manor team-mate Will Stevens, despite a loss of radio communication. The first American to start an F1 race since Scott Speed in 2007, Rossi began from the back after being out-qualified by Stevens, but proved more of a match in the race. Indeed, despite a poor getaway as he struggled to get a grasp on the starting procedures, Rossi passed Stevens on the opening lap and was able to maintain the position to the end despite a loss of radio communication forcing him to compete with pit-wall assistance. “My Formula 1 debut has been a long time coming, but today has been pretty...
