Kvyat sets surprise pace from Raikkonen

Daniil Kvyat has ended the first day of free practice for the Singapore Grand Prix as the surprise pace setter as Red Bull gave a glimpse at its full potential around the Marina Bay Circuit. The Russian emerged quickest of all during a flurry of laps on the super soft tyres, stopping the clock at a 1min 46.142secs, surpassing the erstwhile benchmark set by Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen earlier in the session by 0.039secs. A measure of Red Bull's confidence around the street circuit, Daniel Ricciardo complemented Kvyat's efforts with the third fastest time, the top three split by little more than a tenth in one of the closest practice sessions of the year.
