Hamilton fastest whilst Mercedes are 1.6 seconds clear of the field

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team driver Lewis Hamilton topped the opening practice session of the Italian Grand Prix with Nico Rosberg second. Before fast paced laps were being set Carlos Sainz Jnr brought out the red flags in his Toro Rosso after losing the rear end underbracing into Parabolica. Sainz was sent off sideways into the gravel trap, unable to stop on the tarmac runoff, beaching himself and prompting the red flags due to the need for a recovery truck. Mercedes recent power unit upgrade looks to have set a new benchmark at Monza with both of their drivers easily taking the top two positions by a clear margin. Hamilton set the bar high with a 1:24.670, 0.463s faster than team mate...
