Pirelli: 2013 tyre request was ignored
Pirelli Media Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli says that a request over the maximum length of stints was rejected by the sport towards the end of the 2013 season. Sebastian Vettel suffered a tyre failure on the penultimate lap of the Belgian Grand Prix, having been attempting a one-stop strategy, and had run 27 laps on the Prime tyre up until that point. Vettel was critical of Pirelli after the race but the Italian company hit back, claiming that under a rejected 2013 proposal it would have implemented a maximum suggestion of 22 laps at Spa-Francorchamps.
