Teams back Pirelli extension for 2017

– Senior figures from Formula 1 teams have backed the notion of Pirelli extending its tenure as Formula 1's sole tyre supplier for the next three-year deal, which runs from 2017-19.Pirelli and Michelin have lodged bids to provide tyres to the sport and the companies are set to meet with Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone over the next few weeks.Ecclestone will then select one company to suggest to governing body the FIA, which will make the final call at its next World Motor Sport Council meeting in September."An 18 inch rim and a one-stop is going to do nothing for the spectacle of a Grand Prix and I think actually we need to be looking at doing the opposite," said Red Bull's...
