Perez escapes injury in massive shunt

Sergio Perez has escaped injury after a spectacular crash during opening Formula 1 free practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix. With just 30 minutes of the session remaining, the Force India driver ran across the artificial grass on the exit of Turn 11. Television footage of the crash indicated that there was a failure at the right rear of his car – most likely in the suspension – which pitched his car in to a spin. Perez spun across the track and, after swiping the barriers on the right hand side of the track, his car flipped over its front tyre before ending up upside down.
