Lotus: ‘Cruel sport' sees double retirement on Lap 1

British Grand Prix – Lotus were left distraught after their home race was over within a minute of the lights going out, due to a Lap 1 crash. The Lotus pair, having started from P12 & P14, were vying for position with the McLarens and Red Bulls at the start of the race. Entering Turn 3, the two Lotus drivers collided as Romain Grosjean appeared to cut across into his teammate. Grosjean was out on the spot, while Maldonado managed to continue around the lap before being ordered to cut the engine and retire. Speaking after the race, Grosjean laid the blame at Daniel Ricciardo's feet; he says that he turned away from a certain collision with the Red Bull, only to collide with Maldonado...
