Rosberg: I had to stay out a lap longer

Mercedes AMG Petronas Nico Rosberg says he had no choice but to stay out an extra lap as rain hit Silverstone as he attempted to wrestle victory away from Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg had dropped to fourth at the start and spent much of the race behind Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas, before passing both drivers as rain struck the circuit. Rosberg closed in on Hamilton but the Briton dived into the pits for Intermediates, a decision which Rosberg initially felt was incorrect. However, the rain intensified and Rosberg was forced to pit on the next lap, losing around eight seconds to Hamilton courtesy of the extra lap on dry tyres.
