McLaren reprimanded for Alonso qualifying fault

McLaren has been reprimanded following fitting the wrong tyre to Fernando Alonso's car during qualifying for the British Grand Prix. Alonso has escaped exclusion from qualifying for fitting one of Button’s tyres to the Spaniard’s car. Following the qualifying session, it appeared that McLaren had accidently fitted one of Button’s tires to Alonso’s car in Q1, prompting the stewards to launch an investigation. “Car 14 [Alonso] used a tire allocated to car 22 [Button] in qualifying,” a brief statement from the stewards read, before calling for a team member to report to their office at 4pm local time. “The team admitted the wrong tire had been fitted onto car 14 due to a...
