Wehrlein tops washed-out opening day of testing in Austria

Pascal Wehrlein topped a washed-out opening day of the post-Austrian Grand Prix test for Mercedes. Heavy rain early in the morning curtailed all running, with the session red flagged as a pre-caution until the lunch time break. A break in the weather after lunch saw a flurry of activity from teams, prompting the organisers to extend the test for an extra two hours. As the track dried out in the afternoon it was Wehrlein who set the pace, working his way down to a 1:11.005, a time two-tenths clear of second placed man Esteban Ocon – driving the upgraded Force India.
