Imola in talks over 2017 return
Williams Martini Racing The mayor of Imola, Daniele Manca, says he has held discussions with Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone over the possibility of the circuit hosting the Italian Grand Prix in the future. Imola has not held a Formula 1 race since its final San Marino Grand Prix back in 2006, prior to an overhaul of the circuit's facilities. Monza has been the long-term host of the Italian Grand Prix but its future remains unclear, following the conclusion of its current contract in 2016. Manca has suggested that Imola would be willing to take over running of Italy's Formula 1 race. "We wanted to show Ecclestone how willing Imola was to get Formula 1 back – but also do our part...
