FIA opens 2017-19 Formula 1 tyre tender

– Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has officially opened a tender for interested companies to become the sport's sole tyre supplier from 2017-19.Pirelli returned to Formula 1 for the 2011 season, replacing Bridgestone, with the Italian company's current deal expiring at the end of the 2016 campaign.Applications must be submitted by June 17, with the candidates which meet the FIA's various requirements forwarded a month later for final consideration.Last week, Formula 1's Strategy Group agreed on a proposal for wider tyres from the 2017 season, as part of a push to make cars significantly faster.
